MOMENTUM

What is momentum???????

Momentum is defined as the mass of an object multiplied by its velocity.

momentum= mass x velocity
p= mv
* The unit of momentum kgm/s
* If we donate the direction to the right as positive momentum, an object moving to the right posseses a positive momentum, while another object moving to the left has a negative momentum.
EXAMPLE: A ball of mass of 0.8kg strikes a wall at a velocity of 10m/s and rebounds at 6m/s. What is the momentum, before striking the wall and after the rebound?
Solution :
Taking the direction to the right as positive.
Momentum of the ball before striking the wall,
P1=mv
=0.8 x 10
=8kg m/s
Momentum of the ball after rebound
P2=mv
=0.8 x (-6)
=-4.8kg m/s
